This document presents a scenario proposal for the Design at Work ProductShow. This scenario does not engage any of the products or brands mentioned below. Only brands that explicitly submit and confirm their presence with the subscribe tab below will be on display. The scenario is updated daily according to your input.
The scenario is devided into 6 main categories of solutions: Mobility, Leisure, Communication, Home, Care and Work
MOBILITY: what kind of solution? The exhibition hall will feature a central street with a pedestrian crossing. The traffic lights (by Stefan Schöning) have video detection for optimal security (Safewalk by Traficon). You will discover different ‘mobile units’ on the street: a concept car (Pininfarina), a trailer (by STAS) as well as a composite trailer (by Composittrailer), a motor home (Maess Motorhomes), and trendy electrical scooters (Honda). At another crossing, you will discover an aerodynamically enhanced train design (by Bombardier) and an introduction to future ways of travelling. For commuters, there will be multiple solutions for short distances: a folding bicycle (by Brompton) or a new scooter luggage (by Micro). The bicycle shed will feature a revolutionary concept bike (by Curana) as well as a multifunctional carrier bicycle for parents and children (by Taga). Along the street energy saving LED lights are in place (iGuzzini). Should you prefer to wait for the bus (by VanHool), you can take a seat in the bus shelter (?) while you have a look at the Design at Work advertisements (by OpenScrollingTechnology). For speedy Gonzales, an F1 (by Renault) in super light materials is waiting for you. Green sports areas are overlooking the street. LEISURE: a refinement of products.
The sports field is covered with artificial grass (by Domo) and ready for testing the Olympic sports equipment (by Janssen & Fritsen) or one of the racing bikes (by Trek). Don’t forget the helmet (by Laser). Be sure to avoid pain in the posterior by using the right apparel (by Bioracer). After sports, have a free-standing shower (by Vola) while storing all your belongings safely in lockers (by Sonesto). You will discover much more about sports & leisure: the (Decathlon) design department presents a unique overview of their product development methods. If water is your second nature, there are a lots of products to enjoy, such as speedboats (by Bernico) water scooters (by BRP), swimsuits (Speedo)... Near the water, a large open space with composite terrace planks (by Deceuninck) is equipped with seats (by Royal Bottania) and parasols (by Extremis), ideal for relaxing. Maybe travelling is more your way of spending weekends and holidays? Then you do not only need navigation systems (by Garmin) but also luggage (Cosmolite by Samsonite). ‘Music was my first love’ according to John Miles, and the ProductShow features some of the most beloved solutions: practically unlimited storage on your MP3 player (I-pod by Apple), best listened to with a fancy headphone set (by Wesc). Shopping is a preferred leisure experience for many people. Our shop window features experienced creators using various tools and products such as lighting (Yves Behar for Erco) and materials for interior decoration: wallpaper (by Arte), polycarbonate panels (by Bayer), flooring (by Bolon), racks (by Helbig Aluminium),… COMMUNICATION: how we connect.
The Communication sector features many solutions for visual language. In our development zone, equipped with the latest electrical connectors (Ultradur by BASF), you will discover packaging, brand and communication specialists. They speak a visual language. They use professional cameras (by Olympus), high-performance computers (by Apple) and powerful software for graphical layout (by Adobe) or for 3D sketching (by Google), and store their data on external hard drives (by Lacie). Printing equipment (by Océ) generates the output of this visual language. This can be transmitted to the public through advertising campaigns on billboards (by OpenScrollingTechnology). For normal conversation, we have our beloved mobile phones (by Nokia), and we are connected through our high-speed wireless network routers (by Cisco). For international connections, we use online services (by Skype) and preferably a high-quality headset (Rathdesign for Jabra). HOME : Less energy, more comfort and durability
We start with installing solar panels: the latest ones are very thin and flexible (by Sunpower) and provide us with the required electric power. Architectural windows allow optimal interior light with maximum insulation (by Reynaers). We use domotics home automation to save energy and improve comfort (by Btcino). LED lighting fixtures (by TAL and Aluci) also contribute to this durable effort, together with an alcohol-fuelled fireplace (by Astrasol) which offers warmth in an environmentally friendly way. It’s all about translucence in our bathroom (Corian by DuPont). The towels enjoy instant heating (by Zehnder Group). There is a large spa (BlueMoon by Duravit). The toilet has a minimalist stainless flush (Square by Tece Belgium). The bedroom features rather dark colours (by Boss Paints) but has a white bed (Magnitude by Anker Bedding) and illuminated electrical switches (by Basalte). We can watch a movie (projector by Samsung) or listen to our MP3 player (by Bose). The youth room is equipped with a multifunctional bed (Rock&Rest by Veldeman Bedding). The kitchen, where the family meets, is well equipped with sophisticated but essential products: a quiet range hood (by Novy), enamel homeware (dottings for Riess) and a coffee machine (CitiZ by Nespresso). Al cupboards have opening support (by Blum) and to create the atmosphere decoratieve lighting (by TossB) is in place. Other well designed home products in our Product Show include doorbells (by Siedle), and rubbish bins (by Brabantia). CARE: Daily routine, essential and enhancing quality of life.
Care is about our body, wellness and style , about what we eat & drink (by Delhaize) but also what we do in case of disease. We wake up in the morning (Wakeuplight by Philips). After a quick shower (by Cesana) for many of us, the first thing we do is put on glasses (by Theo). Women use comfortable underwear (by MarieJo) and prefer nice shoes (by Camper). The wardrobe contains a large choice of clothes and accessories, including a stylish mobile phone (by Prada-LG). We have yoghurt (by Danone) early in the morning, and drink tea (by Mariage brothers)… In the evening for our personal wellness we spend some time on gym equipment (Fitnessking) or go for a ergonomical relaxing bath (by Objetbart.be). Healthcare is probably what we care most about, and design in healthcare is hot: Philips provides a good example. WORK: User-centred. Ergonomics is key.
Work environments can be very different. There are household tasks, some people work at managerial functions in offices and others are very hands-on in factories, on site,… For Design at Work, the common element in work environments is the ergonomic and functional design of the products. From high-performance vacuum cleaners (by Dyson), via efficient garden equipment (by Eliet), over a simple but efficient drying rack (by DryMate) back to kitchen appliances (by Gaggenau). In office environments, desks (by Bulo) are essential, as well as seats (by Steelcase) and lighting (?). Telephones (?) and laptops (by HP) are standard working equipment, as well as the multifunctional (by Canon). How does the boardroom of the future look? Design brands will provide the answer during the ProductShow. Hands-on workers use very diverse equipment, from large to small. Agriculture uses harvesters (by NewHolland); construction uses excavators (by Bobcat), and logistics uses forklifts (by TVH). Sheet metalworking industrial machines such as laser cutters (by LVD) transform steel plates (by Arcelor Mittal). CENTRAL SQUARE
